*Janice from Friends voice* OH. MY. GOD! That was my exact reaction after my first taste of Bloom gin.
I’d seen Bloom a few times before but always chose something else over it, so when I saw it was on special offer for the bargain price of £19 I couldn’t resist. What an absolute fool I was for not picking this up sooner.
I had a little read of the booklet attached to the neck of the beautifully intricate bottle while I was in the shop to get an idea of how would taste, and I’m so glad I did. Bloom recommend mixing their gin with Fentiman’s Rose Lemonade – which is absolutely delicious on its own – and I almost let out a little squeal of delight at the thought of drinking it with a generous splash of gin in it! So off I trotted to the soft drinks aisle and picked up a few bottles of rose lemonade and made my way to the checkout almost dizzy with excitement about trying out my new purchases.
If you decide to give Bloom gin a try, do yourself a favour and invest in some rose lemonade. It is divine! The gin’s botanicals are very subtle, so when you take a sip you can taste the gin but it’s matched so well with the citrus in the lemonade. So far, so good, but then you swallow and it just gets better. The rose flavour becomes really apparent, and again, the flavours in the gin compliment it perfectly. With lots of ice, this is the perfect summery drink.
I also tried Bloom gin with Fever Tree tonic, plenty of ice and a couple of halved strawberries. It’s a much more delicate flavour than mixing it with the rose lemonade, but it was so refreshing that I had about 3 in a row! Bloom doesn’t have a very strong ‘gin’ taste, so it would be perfect for someone who is not a massive gin drinker. It’s also my new favourite gin, and I’m definitely a big gin fan.
When it’s not on special offer, Bloom gin is around £24 a bottle and I wouldn’t think twice about paying that for it. If you’re looking for a gin to give as a gift, or just fancy treating yourself, I would strongly suggest that you give it a whirl.
