Now that Halloween is out of the way, it’s time to focus on getting festive; and Aldi have pulled it out of the bag with their new sloe gin mince tarts.
I think the staff at my local Aldi are sick of the sight of me by now. I’ve been going in there every week since I heard they were bringing out gin infused mince pies but they could never tell me when they were coming into stock. Today I got a text from my mum to say they were out. I’ll be honest and say that I can’t remember the last time I was so happy.
It didn’t take long for me to delve into the pack, and I wasn’t disappointed. Biting into these sloe gin mince tarts is almost Bakewell tart-like, the pastry is thick and topped with almonds. Inside, there is a layer of beautifully juicy mince meat with the sweetness of the gin.
The taste of the gin is quite subtle but I liked that about them. I love a mince pie, especially ones with booze in, but I sometimes find it slightly overpowering. These are fruity with a hint of alcohol and delicate spice.
I didn’t think these tarts were too badly priced. They are £2.29 for a pack of six, but my one piece of advice is to buy more than one box. They are very moreish and I found it impossible to only have one. Whether you’re having them with a nice cup of tea or a glass of sloe gin, they are absolutely delicious. bravo, Aldi!
These mince tarts are perfect for getting into the Christmas spirit. They combine my two favourite things about Christmas – sloe gin and mince pies. It is definitely shaping up to be the most wonderful time of the year.
So do they get the Gin with Ginger seal of approval ?
Hell yeah! Get your self down to Aldi, pronto. Just be warned that it’s impossible to only have one…
